Excavated a 37 000 year old hyaena den in collaboration with Dr. Jean-Francois Tournepiche (Museum Angouleme, France), Dr. Graham Avery (Iziko Museum, South Africa) and Dr. Philippe Foss (CNRS).

November, 2002 - Toulouse, France.

Visited French Palaeolithic cave sites and inspected hyaena accumulated osteological material from several sites in France (in association with the CNRS).

January, 2000 - Excavated at the site of Blombos Cave, the site of the discovery of the earliest piece of engraved ochre.

September, 1999 - Duke University, North Carolina.

Invited by Prof. William L. Hylander to visit the Department of Biological Anthropology and Anatomy at Duke University and participate in their gross anatomy course.

July, 1998 -September, 1999 - Free State Survey, Free State, South Africa.

Participant in the on-going survey being conducted by the University of the Witwatersrand, Duke University and the National Museum (Bloemfontein) in search of Plio-Pleistocene fossil-bearing deposits along the Modder and Riet Rivers, Free State, South Africa.

Participated in laboratory work at the University of the Witwatersrand, PARG Labs, on the faunal identification and analysis of excavated materials from this hominid-bearing Plio-Pleistocene cave site near Pretoria.

Assisted in and later directed excavations and survey work during a month-long field season at this Late Middle Pleistocene hyaena den. Aided in establishing preliminary faunal identifications while in the field.

1996 -1997 - Hoedjiespunt, Western Cape, South Africa.

Participated in two field seasons at Hoedjiespunt. Curated, analyzed and identified the non-human mammalian skeletal remains from all field seasons up to 1997. The analysis of this material constituted a major part of my M.A. thesis.

June - July, 1996 - University of the Witwatersrand Field School.

Attended this field school which focused on Plio-Pleistocene human evolution in South Africa.

1991 -1993 - UCT Archaeology Department Fieldwork Requirements.

Completed my 30 day fieldwork requirement by attending the UCT Archaeology Field School, excavations at Dune Field Midden and the rock art survey in the Cederberg during the course of my undergraduate career.

The project entailed the location, description, recording and mapping of new fossil sites in predominantly Pleistocene sediments in the Free State, South Africa, and Botswana.
